Well needless to say, 2013 has not been kind to my family. It is refreshing for the first time ever, I feel as though this new year is a new beginning.
I wanted to start the year off doing something for someone that I would have loved to happen to me. So I put it out on my Facebook that I would be a designated driver for the first person who messaged me.
I was happy tonight to pick up my friend and coworker, who is becoming a mama for the first time in February, and her boyfriend. Luckily they live close to me so I headed in the city and picked them up from their friends wedding.
Being New Years, our police force was out in full swing. I got stopped at 2 routine checks and it was nice to let them know I was just out paying it forward. Makes their job easier and makes me feel good.
It was a cool -16 without the windchill tonight so I got in the ole minivan, pumped the heat and even warmed the seats. Picked them up and dropped them off but not without them trying to pay me.
This is the problem with today. It's not normal for us to randomly do nice things without getting something in return. Luckily they had no cash and I refused to stop at an ATM.
I hope that my journey of kindness this year, big or small, inspires others to do the same. It shouldn't be weird for us to be nice to one another, it should be normal. HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best in 2014!!
