Looks as though the way life is, being a working mom of two with a husband who also works doesn't always alotte the time needed to be a full time blogger. At least not in my world. So on my quest to be a kinder and happier person, it will still exist, just maybe not on a daily basis.
Well as I'm sure my headline intrigued you since polygamy has become more mainstream since Sister Wives started airing a few years ago on TLC, this is version of it is a little different.
Me and some of my mom friends, (with whom a lot are military wives), joke about how we should all move onto a compound and be sister wives. Sounds creepy perhaps, but as the saying goes, 'It takes a village to raise a child.' Well husband swapping aside, (as I am and will forever be a serial monogomist), it really is a nice thought.
Not being the only one to help raise your child, not to be the only one to have to cook and clean, it starts to sound a little less creepy and a little more awesome. Well this past weekend I attended a birthday party of my friends little girl. It was her second birthday and lots of family and friends were there.
It struck me funny though, those of us that are 'mom friends' from the same group were there and its like we just instinctively kept things running like a well oiled machine. After the presents were opened, the living room looked like utter chaos and all of us 'mom friends', without even consulting one another just started to clean up. Lots of guests were there but it just seemed to be us who were just doing it.
Also during the party I saw things happen numerous times. My child fell and started cying and instead of my friends finding me they just scooped her up and gave her a cuddle. Or when I saw my friends acrobatic two year old try to stand on the kitchen counter, instead of hollering my friends name, I just told her that's not what we do and I took her down. I swear it was a scatter when we were looking for my daughters sippy cup (which was eventually found.)
Even after the party was over, while my friend and her husband were seeing everyone to the door and handing out party favors, my husband and I just started cleaning up. It was like a job was there and needed to be done.
Really, I know these ladies would have done the same thing for me if it were at my house. So maybe the issue isn't polygamy and one man being married to multple women to get the parenting job done. Not unlike my daughter's favorite television show My Little Pony, maybe you just need to find that right group of people who parent just the way you do.
